Shri Shrimajjagadguru Shankaracharya Shri  Sonda Swarnavalli Mahasamsthanam is situated amidst evergreen forests near Shalmala river in Sirsi Taluk of Uttara Kannada district in Karnataka, is a famous religious centre and history can be traced back to the period of Adi Shankara who professed Advaita (Non-Dualism) philosophy, established Maths to propagate it. Shri Vishwavandya Saraswati, the first Guru of this Peetha was blessed by Adi Shankara. The Matha was founded in Dashashwamedhaghat at Kashi, and later shifted to Ujjaini, Gokarna, Kadtoke, Sahasralinga and the present Swarnavalli, respectively. Owing to the royal patronage and people’s faith , the Matha besides becoming a Gurupeetha for the entire Gokarna-Mandala, developed a Mahasamsthana. It includes 16 seemas in the Upperghat and several places in the Lowerghat and many more  disciples across India. Havyakas, Ramakshatriyas, Sheeligas, Siddhis, Marathis, Goulis, Bhandaris and Kunbis and many more are the traditional disciples of this Math in addition to devotees and theists.

Goddess Shri Marikamba of Sirsi

Environmentally the district of North Kanara is visit-worthy, and sacred as also on account of its shrines and Temples. The beach of Karwar so much eulogised by the poet Laureate Rabindranath Tagore, the world famous Gersoppa Falls, and Gokarn the Kashi of the south are some of the note-worthy places of the district. And particularly in Sirsi, aptly called the crest of the district the historical places of Sonda and Banavasi stand mute witnesses to their greatness and glory with their hoary past of temples and forts and stone-inscriptions even after lapse of centuries.

Sirsi Marikamba Temple

The benign deity of Shri Marikamba is the one Goddess enshrined in the hearts of lakhs of devotees in and around North Kanara. The fame of Shri Marikamba stretches as far back as to about 300 years when in the year 1611 of Shalivahan era on Tuesday the 8th of Vaishakh, She is said to have been installed by the then King of Sonda Immadi Sadashiva Rao under instructions from the Swamy of Nandikeshwaramath.

Manjuguni Lord Venkataramana Temple Manjuguni is one of the popular pilgrim centers located in the Uttara Kannada (North Canara) district of Karnataka state. The temple here is dedicated to Lord Venkataramana and Goddess Padmavathi. Devotees believe that, Manjuguni is called as Tirupati of karnataka. The temple is situated in western ghat belt, popularly known as Sahyadri hills. During winter, this place is covered by thick fog and hence it is called by the name "Manjuguni". The temple of Lord Venkatramana is a huge complex built in Vijayanagara Style.
